About Us

James B. McCormick, M.D. is a pathologist, inventor, and consultant to the scientific and healthcare industry.  A lecturer in histotechnology, he holds dozens of patents for laboratory science and related equipment.  He is author of 18th-Century Microscopes: A Synopsis of History and Workbook as well as many peer reviewed health science papers.  Dr. and Mrs. McCormick founded Science Heritage Ltd. in 1975 to support their collection of antique microscopes, natural science artifacts, and prepared microscope slides. As avid collectors of antique scientific instruments, Dr. and Mrs. McCormick have formed the Science Heritage Collection of rare microscopes, books, and 18th and 19th Century prepared microscope slides. Along with books on the history of histotechnology, some of the antique microscopes have been reproduced for use in a teaching curriculum for the History of Science. Portions of the collection and books have been contributed to the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Washington and several prominent universities.

Formed by Dr. and Mrs. McCormick in 2012, the gift grant program (available only in the United States) provides one or more of available inventory to History of Science and Biological Science Departments of Colleges and Universities that keeps a collection of Natural Science Instruments and Artifacts for use and study by graduate and undergraduate education.  A condition of gifting is an agreement to use/display the gift for educational purpose and to not dispose of the gift by sale or other means for a period of 10 years.  In addition, the receiving institution will pay the cost of packing and shipping.
